As if that weren’t enough, seven of the top nine places are also held by women, showcasing their unmatched effort and talent in this competition, serving as an example of perseverance and discipline.
The list is led by Josefina Cornejo, who earned 14 medals in the Toronto 1976 and Arnhem 1980 editions. She excelled in various disciplines such as athletics, swimming, and adapted table tennis. Eight of her medals were gold, all won on the track, both in sprint events and in disciplines like discus and shot put, among others.
Tied at the top is Juana Soto, also with 14 medals, although hers are more spread out, as she competed in the four Games held between 1980 and 1992. She primarily competed as a runner in various distances, but also stood out in the Pentathlon and Marathon. She also won eight gold medals. Just below them, in third place, is Leticia Torres, who competed from Seoul 1988 to Athens 2004, only missing the Paralympics in Sydney 2000. She won a total of 13 medals, also competing in various athletics events, though she secured only four golds.

In the fourth spot is Martha Sandoval, who competed for Mexico in the 1976 and 1980 Games. She earned 12 medals, six of them gold. Like Cornejo, her success was multi-faceted, with podium finishes in athletics, several swimming events, and one medal in table tennis. Rounding out the list in fifth place is a legend of Mexican adapted swimming, Doramitzi González, who won 11 medals in this discipline between Sydney 2000 and Beijing 2008. Five of them were gold, particularly in the 50-meter events, which were always her specialty.
