Understanding our history and future inevitably involves knowing and studying our relationship with the United States, to which, like it or not, we are geopolitically bound. Given that this empire represents the most significant industrial and military conglomerate in the world, we are a strategic necessity for its development.

For this reason, our bilateral relations are crucial in understanding our own path; it should be emphasized that many Mexican governments have maintained a balance and safeguarded national sovereignty.

Currently, we face three fundamental issues: justice and insecurity, the economy and trade, and, of course, migration.

All these aspects intersect with the provisions regulating the USMCA, which, by the way, establishes a legal framework where the signatory nations have ceded sovereignty, allowing trade disputes to be resolved through arbitration panels by international judges, rather than through each country's courts.

Security remains an issue that not only fundamentally affects all Mexicans, but the undesirable presence of organized crime and its operations involving illegal people and narcotics also concerns all our neighbors.

Regarding trade and the economy, our relations have produced a phenomenon with enormous consequences, with an annual amount of more than 1.5 billion dollars, making it the most significant trade agreement. Therefore, the survival of this agreement is essential not only for Mexico but also for the United States and Canada.

For this reason, the leaders of today and the immediate future must protect the development of this economic project.

Migration is another fundamental issue, and regardless of who wins the U.S. elections, there must be a solution to this problem, giving greater fluidity to this phenomenon, which occurs not only in our region but worldwide. It seems we will receive better treatment if the Democrats win.

The arrival of the new government, led by Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum, is obliged to gain the solidarity of all Mexicans, beyond internal differences, to maintain fundamental principles that provide us with stability and direction.

For all these reasons, careful thought must be given to the immediate future, not confining ourselves to irreducible ideological positions but thinking patriotically about the nation's future. This will ensure that the phrase attributed to Porfirio Díaz—"Poor Mexico, so far from God and so close to the United States"—does not condemn us to underdevelopment, exploitation, and poverty, but instead propels us toward prosperity, with respect for the principles enshrined in the Constitution.
