The WhatsApp channel “Latinos with Harris-Walz,” which has 25,000 followers, shared information about the economic plan of Democratic Party candidate Kamala Harris, emphasizing that it aims to benefit the working class.

In an effort to bring this information to the community—since, according to a Pew Research Center report published this year, 54% of Hispanic adults use WhatsApp to communicate and share news—the message sent this Thursday breaks down the key points of Harris’s proposal:

  • Tax cuts for 100 million Americans
  • A $6,000 tax credit for families during the first year of each child’s life
  • A $3,600 tax credit per child for working families, along with an expansion of tax cuts for workers who are not raising a child
  • Ensuring that no one earning less than $400,000 a year will pay a single penny more in taxes

This effort aims to reach more Latinos, even those who do not follow official news channels, as the majority (87%) say they prefer using digital devices over other platforms; and 65% say they prefer that method over television, radio, or print media, according to Pew Research.

Latino immigrants living in the U.S. have also reported that they prefer receiving news in Spanish, which is why the messages from the “Latinos with Harris-Walz” channel are always sent in both English and Spanish.

It is also worth noting that a recurring request to the channel’s followers is to share the information with family and friends.

Liza Colón-Zayas (The Bear) and Walz Call for Voting

On the same channel, the well-known actress from the dramedy series The Bear, along with Kamala Harris’s vice-presidential running mate, Tim Walz, shared a video reminding viewers that much is at stake.

“I need you to get out there. Knock on doors, make calls, and vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz,” Liz urges.

“Let’s win this,” Walz reaffirms in his message. “We’re in the fourth quarter,” he says, referring to a football game, “leave it all on the field, get out there, and let’s finish this,” he declares, 40 days before the election.
