Hurricane Milton Expected to Bring Tornadoes to Southern Florida
No Outdoor Area is Safe, Consular Authorities Warn; Urge Mexican Nationals to Seek Shelter

The Mexican Consulate in Miami has informed the Mexican community via its X account (ConsulMexMia) that multiple tornado warnings are currently in effect due to the approach of Hurricane “Milton” to the Gulf Coast of Mexico.

“Due to the passage of Hurricane Milton, strong tornadoes are expected in southern Florida.”
The safety recommendations issued by the consular representation for Mexican nationals are as follows:
- If you are in a house or building, go to the basement.
- If there is no basement, take shelter in an interior room or hallway on the lowest floor and position yourself under a large, sturdy piece of furniture.
- Stay away from windows.
- Exit vehicles; do not attempt to outrun a tornado in a vehicle.
- Mobile homes are dangerous and should be evacuated in favor of finding a shelter.
- Remember that any flying object due to a tornado can cause serious injury or death, so no outdoor location is safe.

They also reminded the public that due to the critical weather conditions caused by Hurricane “Milton,” and in accordance with local authorities, the Mexican Consulate General in Miami will be closed on Wednesday, October 9, and Thursday, October 10.
