There is no more repeated confrontation in the World Series than Dodgers vs. Yankees. This will be the twelfth time. The last time they faced each other in this instance was 43 years ago, in 1981, when the Californian team won in six games with an impeccable performance by the best Mexican pitcher, Fernando “Toro” Valenzuela, who unfortunately passed away two days ago.

These two are the most important organizations in baseball; It is enough to mention the finals played, the retired numbers, the titles and the fans.

Throughout this rivalry, there have been moments that will forever be remembered, such as October 8, 1956, when Don Larsen became the first and only pitcher in history to throw a perfect game in the World Series, or in the Fall Classic of 1977, when Reggie Jackson, “Mr. October,” hit five home runs in six games. We also remember when Fernando Valenzuela, winner of the Cy Young Award in 1981, won Game 3 of that same series, leading the comeback of Tom Lasorda’s team.

The balance of this great rivalry is in favor of the “Bronx Bombers,” with eight wins and three losses.

For this season, the top candidates to reach the World Series were the Dodgers and the Yankees. Both franchises put together a solid batting lineup and fine-tuned their pitching to have it as complete as possible, both in starters and in the bullpen.

They managed to be the best in their league and today they are on the eve of facing each other. “It’s what people wanted, what we all wanted,” said Dodgers star Mookie Betts, about facing the Yankees.

Aaron Judge vs. Shohei Ohtani: the two best players in the MLB go head to head for the first time. “All Rise” led the American League in home runs, RBIs, OBP and slugging. “Sho Time” did exactly the same. We couldn’t have had a better matchup. Judge showed his admiration for the Japanese in a press conference, saying: “Ohtani is the best player in baseball. What an ambassador for this sport.”

Judge vs. Ohtani, Juan Soto and Giancarlo Stanton against Mookie Betts and Teoscar Hernandez, Gerrit Cole and Yoshinobu Yamamoto leading on the mound. There is no doubt that this could be the highest-rated World Series in history, the East Coast against the West Coast.

For Game 1, the starting pitchers will be Gerrit Cole for the Yankees and Jack Flaherty for the Dodgers. Cole has one victory in the current postseason, while Flaherty has one win and two losses.

The Manhattan Mules will play their 41st World Series. For their part, the Dodgers will play their 22nd. The Yankees are the most successful team in the MLB, with 27 Fall Classic titles. However, the New York fans are eager to reign again, since the last time they were crowned was in 2009, against the Phillies. They had not reached the top stage of the hot ball since that year. Will the Dodgers win their eighth World Series or will the World Series return to where it always belongs, Yankee Stadium? We are likely to experience one of the best series in MLB history. Play Ball!
