López Obrador prepares tribute to migrant heroes and heroines

President López Obrador acknowledged the contributions of Mexicans living in the United States who support their families back home through remittances.

With just a month and a half left in his administration, President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced that on Monday, August 19, a tribute to migrants will take place during his daily press conference, known as "La Mañanera."

He highlighted that migrants in the United States contribute significantly to their families in Mexico, sending remittances exceeding $63 billion.

"We have a month and a half left in the office, and we will be with you until the very last day, which I believe is a Monday, the last day of September. I inform you that the tribute to migrants will be next Monday. If you can, we invite all our fellow countrymen and women to stay tuned. The Mañanera will be dedicated to them," he stated.

AMLO Recognizes Mexican Migrants in the U.S.

The president emphasized that this would be a recognition of the heroes and heroines who, in challenging circumstances, decided to leave the country in search of a better life, risking everything and doing so with strong convictions.

"Their work ethic, their desire to succeed, and their honest efforts have greatly contributed to the nation that gave them an opportunity, the United States," he said.

He reiterated that Mexican migrants contribute $324.8 billion to the U.S. economy and send $63.3 billion to their families in Mexico. Additionally, he noted that this year, remittances are expected to reach $65 billion.
