Within the framework of the hearing of oral arguments to determine whether the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program will continue, held before the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals this Thursday, current U.S. Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris issued a statement in support of the program’s beneficiaries.

According to her message, Harris has defended the benefits program throughout her career as California Attorney General, U.S. Senator, and Vice President.

As a presidential candidate, she stated that if she becomes the next president of the United States, she will ensure to continue fighting to protect the Dreamers and urge Congress to pass the path to citizenship that, she said, these young people so deserve.

“The Dreamers serve in our armed forces, teach in our classrooms, and care for our loved ones. They are our neighbors, our friends, and our coworkers. DACA has been a lifeline for hundreds of thousands of young people who have been able to live without fear and work legally in the only country they know as home: the United States of America,”Kamala Harris

The statement was shared with the Latino community through her channel Latinos con Harris-Walz, where she emphasized that ending this program would lead to consequences such as businesses suddenly being left without employees, communities being thrown into unnecessary chaos, and hardworking families being torn apart.

The states seeking to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, which currently has over 530,000 enrollees, are Alabama, Arkansas, South Carolina, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nebraska, Texas, and West Virginia.
