Trump’s vision gains ground

To claim that a considerable part of Donald Trump’s presidential campaign is based on lies or exaggerations would seem as pointless as it is obvious, but at the same time, it would also be pointless to claim that several of the issues now dominant in the public political debate are those advocated by him and his Republican allies. In fact, the dominant issues in the 2024 presidential political campaign are economy, violence, migration and abortion.

And of these, economy, migration, security, are issues imposed by a Trump determined to “denounce” the “danger” represented by the “invasion” of immigrants, while he even speaks of “a country occupied” by 25 million undocumented immigrants.
And in passing, he claims that Haitian migrants steal dogs and cats in Springfield (Ohio) to eat them, despite the denials of the governor and the mayor (Republicans), they assure that Venezuelan gangs control the city of Aurora (Colorado), despite the fact that local authorities reject it. And these are the least of the exaggerations used by Trump and his allies in a campaign in which they have announced their intention to use even the Army to confront those they consider as “the internal enemy”, a definition that reaches anyone who does not agree with their measures or their way of thinking.
In that framework, according to the American political press, Vice President Kamala Harris admitted that to a large extent former President Trump has won the discussion about the border.

“Both Trump and Harris are now committed to imposing some of the most restrictive immigration, asylum and border policies in decades, which could have significant impacts on Texas,” Axios recently reported. The fact that the border state of Arizona is at stake is also significant.

In fact, it could be said that Harris has gone from presenting herself as a defender of the undocumented to promoting herself as a former prosecutor of a border state who will be more effective than Trump on the southern border.
According to some reports, Trump and his allies are ready to blame migrants for literally everything, from violence and criminality to overloading and abusing social services, lack of jobs and voting without the right in the elections next November.
Anti-immigrant accusations have been a constant in Trump’s political career since 2015, from the moment he announced his intention to seek the Republican nomination.
The famous Nazi propaganda minister, Joseph Goebbels, claimed that a lie repeated a thousand times became a truth. And for a large part of the American public opinion, which prides itself on being descended from migrants, those who arrive in their lands today are always the worst, guilty even of the decadence of their country. And it has been that way since 1760.
