Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, the presumptive President-elect of Mexico, received a call from Kamala Harris, Vice President of the United States, to discuss the relationship between the two countries with the arrival of the new Mexican government.

According to a statement from the White House, the U.S. Vice President also took the opportunity to congratulate Dr. Sheinbaum on her victory in the recent elections on June 2.

"Vice President Kamala Harris spoke today with President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum of Mexico and congratulated her on her historic election as the next President of Mexico," the White House stated.

The White House reported that the main topics of the phone call with Claudia Sheinbaum were addressing the root causes of migration, strengthening trade ties and economic growth, and combating human trafficking, illicit drugs, and firearms.

"The Vice President and President-elect Sheinbaum committed to working together to address the global climate crisis and reinforce renewable energy in our region. They also discussed the importance of women holding leadership positions and empowering women and girls," the U.S. government indicated.
