United States funding for opposition in Mexico during electoral processes revealed
The head of the Financial Intelligence Unit (UIF) disclosed the donations received by Mexicanos contra la Corrupción y la Impunidad from the U.S. Embassy and other organizations.
Today, the head of the Financial Intelligence Unit of Mexico (UIF), Pablo Gómez, presented a report detailing the funding received by the civil association Mexicanos contra la Corrupción y la Impunidad (MCCI) from accounts in the United States.

This organization, whose legal representatives are Claudio X. González Guajardo and María Amparo Casar Pérez, has received nine donations totaling 13,017,951.50 pesos from various U.S. organizations between 2017 and 2023. These organizations include The Ford Foundation, the John and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, the International Community Foundation, The Rockefeller Brothers Fund, and Intelligent Mexican Marketing, Gómez highlighted.
Mexicanos contra la Corrupción’s Income Since 2015 Revealed
Pablo Gómez also reported that from 2015 to 2023, this civil association's total income amounted to 502,588,208 pesos. However, between August 29, 2018, and January 23, 2024, the organization received 96,740,613 pesos from the U.S. Embassy in Mexico.
"The financial transfers were issued by the Financial Service Center and were invoiced by Mexicanos contra la Corrupción on behalf of an entity called the U.S. Agency for International Development, U.S. Embassy, which is how the bank account from which the transfers were made is labeled," Gómez explained.

He emphasized that these contributions from the U.S. government to the association did not begin in 2015 when it was founded, but rather after the 2018 elections, the year when López Obrador won the presidency, and Morena secured a majority in Congress.

"We are making public information that they should disclose themselves. The members, the organization's leaders, are only two," Gómez stated.
AMLO Prepares Diplomatic Note to the U.S. for Funding the Opposition
President Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced that he would act diplomatically and internally in response to these revelations. He plans to send a letter to his U.S. counterpart, Joe Biden, and issue a diplomatic note regarding the funding of opposition organizations.
"One, I will send a letter to the President of the United States, President (Joe) Biden, on this issue. Additionally, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will issue a diplomatic note on the same topic because we believe there is clear interference by the U.S. government in matters that concern only the sovereignty of our country," he stated.
Furthermore, the Mexican president indicated that the Fiscal Prosecutor's Office and the Tax Administration Service (SAT) will be asked to review whether these donations comply with the law.
"The other measure will be to ask the Fiscal Prosecutor to conduct a review, together with the SAT, of these donations to see if they comply with the law and to present a report," he added.
He also agreed with Pablo Gómez, head of the UIF, that regulations concerning the tax deduction of donations to organizations need to be updated.
"And as Pablo (Gómez) suggested, we are still in time to make some modifications, to propose legislative initiatives so that public resources are not used to fund campaigns against the interests of the majority of Mexicans... when taxes are deducted for donations, that is income that does not reach the public treasury and cannot be used for the country's development," he pointed out.
