Heads of the Interior Ministry, Security, Legal Counsel, Navy, Defense, and Education Departments Finalize Handover

Just before midnight, the outgoing and incoming heads of the Ministry of the Interior, Security and Citizen Protection, and the Legal Counsel to the Presidency completed the handover process for their respective agencies. In this shift, Rosa Icela Rodríguez was appointed as the new Secretary of the Interior, replacing Luisa María Alcalde; Omar García Harfuch is now the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, succeeding Rosa Icela Rodríguez; and Ernestina Godoy Ramos takes over as Legal Counsel to the Presidency, replacing María Estela Ríos González.

Simultaneously, from the parade grounds of the Heroic Military College, the transition ceremony took place for the Department of National Defense. Outgoing Defense Secretary Luis Cresencio Sandoval passed the baton to incoming Secretary Ricardo Trevilla Trejo. Similarly, a ceremony was held for the Navy Department, where Admiral Rafael Ojeda Durán handed over command to Raymundo Pedro Morales Ángeles.

In her new role at the Ministry of the Interior, Rosa Icela Rodríguez stated that on October 1st, she would begin communicating with governors, deputies, and senators to address the nation’s pressing issues. She emphasized that the government remains stable and noted that the new administration, led by President Claudia Sheinbaum, is building on the foundations already laid for national transformation.

“We are aware of the issues that demand our immediate attention. That’s why we will begin communication immediately, and I can assure you that the government is at peace,” Rodríguez highlighted. Omar García Harfuch, the new Security Secretary, added that, under President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s direction, Rosa Icela Rodríguez initiated a security model that focused on addressing the root causes of violence and crime. Simultaneously, efforts were made to build a fundamental and disciplined security force recognized for its loyalty to Mexico, he emphasized.

Ernestina Godoy Ramos, the new Legal Counsel to the Presidency, assured that there would be no economic disruption or crises during President Claudia Sheinbaum’s administration. “We are beginning a new phase in the administrative transition and the renewal of the Federal Executive Branch, as established by our democratic system. It is now time for our president, who, with her state vision and ideals of a nation grounded in freedom, rights, and social justice, will take our country’s transformation even further,” she stated.

Luis Cresencio Sandoval handed command to General Ricardo Trevilla Trejo at the Department of National Defense ceremony. This transition ceremony was held at the Heroic Military College for the first time. Sandoval expressed pride in fulfilling his duties, noting that decisions made during his term aligned with the Constitution. He also highlighted the creation of the National Guard and its incorporation into the Department of National Defense, which he described as the most significant project in public security.

The incoming Defense Secretary acknowledged the recently renovated facilities of his alma mater, the Heroic Military College, and reminded attendees that Claudia Sheinbaum would now be the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces. At the Navy, outgoing Secretary Rafael Ojeda Durán expressed gratitude to the people and President López Obrador for the trust placed in him during this administration, stating that he was leaving with his mission accomplished.

Ojeda Durán also praised Admiral Morales Ángeles, calling him a sailor of great ability and affirming that the Navy would be in good hands due to his distinguished career. He expressed respect and admiration for President Sheinbaum, wishing her success as Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.

In the afternoon, a similar transition ceremony took place for the Ministry of Public Education (SEP), where outgoing Secretary Leticia Ramírez Amaya highlighted educational achievements over the last six years, including the creation of the “La Escuela es Nuestra” program, the regularization of teachers’ contracts, the distribution of scholarships, and the development of new free textbooks. Mario Delgado, the incoming Secretary of Education, affirmed his commitment to ensuring that all work together for the benefit of the people of Mexico and in alignment with the New Mexican School educational model. He expressed that it is an honor for him to continue the academic policies of the Fourth Transformation (4T).
