Mexico’s Security Cabinet reports significant actions carried out on March 24, 2025

In coordinated operations, Mexico’s Security Cabinet reported arrests, searches, and the seizure of firearms and various drugs in the states of Baja California, Baja California Sur, Mexico City, Colima, Durango, Guerrero, Jalisco, Nayarit, Oaxaca, Sinaloa, Sonora, Tabasco, and Tamaulipas

  • In Baja California, members of the National Guard and Customs detained two individuals and seized $49,000 hidden inside a spare tire.
  • In Sinaloa, Mexican Army personnel seized 6,635 liters and 100 kilograms of chemical substances, two organic synthesis reactors, and a condenser. This represents an estimated economic loss of 149 million pesos to criminal organizations.
  • In Sonora, joint forces including the Mexican Army, National Guard, Attorney General’s Office (FGR), State Attorney’s Office (FGE), and State Police searched a property, arrested three people, and seized two long guns, a handgun, magazines, ammunition, various drug doses, and three vehicles.
  • In Guanajuato, Army personnel and PEMEX Security seized a storage site, a container, 2,200 meters of hose, 100 meters of high-pressure tubing, and 2,100 meters of regular tubing and recovered 14,000 liters of stolen fuel.

These actions are part of the National Security Strategy, which includes four pillars: addressing root causes, consolidating the National Guard, strengthening intelligence and investigations, and coordinating with state authorities.

BAJA CALIFORNIA

  • In Mexicali, National Guard and Customs officers inspected a vehicle, arrested two individuals, and found $49,000 hidden in a spare tire.
  • In Tijuana and San Felipe, the Mexican Army, National Guard, and FGR searched two properties and arrested four people. It seized one long gun, three handguns, magazines, ammunition, drug doses, tactical gear, and two vehicles.

BAJA CALIFORNIA SUR

  • In Comondú, at the port of Adolfo López Mateos, Navy (SEMAR) and CONAPESCA officers seized 11 sacks containing 550 kilograms of Catarina clam, a protected species. The product was found abandoned.

MEXICO CITY

  • In Cuauhtémoc borough, Centro neighborhood, Navy personnel and the Executive Coordinator for Foreign Trade Verification (CECVE), based on intelligence, seized 237 electric motorbikes. The items were handed over to CECVE.

COLIMA

  • On March 23 in Colima, the FGR, in support of the Jalisco State Prosecutor’s Office, arrested José Antonio “N,” a former police officer from Tala, accused of forced disappearance related to the Izaguirre ranch case in Teuchitlán.

JALISCO

  • On March 22 in Acatic, the State Prosecutor’s Office arrested Gabriel “N,” another former police officer from Tala, for the forced disappearance of a man who had been held at the Izaguirre ranch and later released.

MICHOACÁN

  • In Apatzingán, during patrols, the Mexican Army and National Guard, with Civil Guard support, arrested one person and seized a long gun, a magazine, 22 rounds, and a vehicle.

OAXACA

  • In Juchitán de Zaragoza, during patrols, the Mexican Army and National Guard, with Municipal Police support, arrested five individuals and seized drug doses, cash, and a motorcycle.

SINALOA

  • In Culiacán, the Army, National Guard, FGR, and State Police searched a property, arrested three individuals, and seized two long guns, four handguns, magazines, 3,000 rounds, and three vehicles—one factory-armored.
  • In another Culiacán raid, the Army, National Guard, and FGR arrested a man. It seized a Barrett rifle, three long guns, magazines, ammunition, two kilos of methamphetamine, and two vehicles (one armored). The estimated value of the drugs is 586,839 pesos.
  • Army personnel in Culiacán also found a vehicle and seized two long guns, a handgun, magazines, ammo, and tire-spike strips.
  • In Concordia, Army troops seized a Barrett rifle, three machine guns, four long guns, magazines, 3,509 rounds, two metal chests, 150 ammo belts, three ballistic vests, eight plates, and one improvised armored vehicle.
  • In Concordia, Escuinapa, and Culiacán, Mexican Army personnel conducted surveillance patrols and seized a long gun, 21 magazines, 827 rounds of ammunition, drugs, five stolen vehicles, and a motorcycle.

SONORA

  • In Altar, the Army and State Attorney’s Office located two vehicles and seized seven long guns.
  • In Altar, Pitiquito, Sáric, and General Plutarco Elías Calles, a joint operation involving the Army, National Guard, FGR, State Attorney’s Office, and State Police resulted in the arrest of three people and the seizure of two long guns, a handgun, magazines, ammo, drug doses, and three vehicles.
  • In Caborca, the Army and State Attorney’s Office seized a vehicle, three long guns, magazines, ammo, drug doses, tactical gear, and two ATVs.

TABASCO

  • In Cárdenas, the Army, National Guard, Navy, SSPC, State Prosecutor’s Office, and State Police arrested a man linked to a criminal cell. He had a handgun, tactical vest, and various drug doses.
  • In Paraíso, the Army and State Police arrested three people and seized two long guns, a handgun, magazines, ammo, drug doses, a vehicle, and a motorcycle.
  • In downtown Villahermosa, the Navy, National Guard, Army, State Prosecutor’s Office, and State Police arrested two criminal group members based on intelligence reports. They seized five marijuana doses, 24 meth doses, a handgun, 16 rounds, and a magazine.

TAMAULIPAS

  • In Reynosa, the Army and State Police seized a long gun, magazines, ammo, a ballistic vest, and five vehicles—three of them with improvised armor.
  • In Ciudad Mier, Army troops seized two long guns, 20 magazines, and 360 rounds.
  • In Camargo, during patrols, the Army and National Guard seized 90 kilograms of marijuana.

ANTI-DRUG PRODUCTION AND TRAFFICKING EFFORTS

  • In Chihuahua, Sinaloa, Durango, Guerrero, and Oaxaca, the Army destroyed 217 opium poppy fields (25 hectares) and 102 marijuana fields (7 hectares).
  • In Badiraguato, Culiacán, Cosalá, and Elota, Sinaloa, the Army dismantled 12 drug-processing sites. It seized 6,635 liters and 100 kg of chemicals, two reactors, and one condenser—estimated loss to criminal groups: 149 million pesos.
  • In Ixtlán del Río and El Nayar, Nayarit, Navy personnel—based on intelligence—eradicated four marijuana fields and five poppy fields over 45,150 square meters. Around 246,900 marijuana plants and 712,000 poppy plants were destroyed.

FUEL THEFT PREVENTION

  • In Villagrán, Guanajuato, during inspections of the Tula-Salamanca pipeline, the Army and PEMEX Security found a sealed illegal tap, seized a container, 2,200 meters of hose, 100 meters of high-pressure tubing, 2,100 meters of regular hose, and recovered 14,000 liters of gasoline.
  • In Zapotlanejo, Jalisco, during inspections along the Salamanca-Guadalajara pipeline, the Army and PEMEX Security seized a storage site, nine containers, 800 meters of high-pressure hose, and recovered 12,810 liters of gasoline.
