In two maritime operations aproximately 4.2 tons of presumed cocaine were seized off the coast of Guerrero
The action was led by Navy personnel, in coordination with the Mexican Government’s Security Cabinet

In the framework of the National Security Strategy, as part of maritime operations conducted in recent days led by personnel from the Ministry of the Navy (Semar) through in its Coast Guard functions, and in coordination with the Ministry of National Defense (Defensa), the Federal Attorney General’s Office (FGR), the National Guard (GN), and the Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), during two different operations, approximately 4.2 tons of suspected cocaine were seized off the coast of Guerrero.

The first operation was carried out during aerial surveillance patrols, aboard a Panther helicopter, belonging to the Semar, in which naval personnel located a GoFast type boat with five people on board, all males, transporting 38 sack-type packages, inside of which were brick-type packages each one containing a white color powder with characteristics similar to those of cocaine hydrochloride, with an approximate total gross weight of 1.8 tons.
The five persons arrested and the suspected drugs and vessel that were impounded, were transported by sea to the dock of the Eighth Naval Region and placed at the disposal of the Federal Attorney General’s Office, in order to prepare the corresponding investigation files.
In a second operation, navy personnel impounded 64 sack-type packages floating in the sea off the coast of Guerrero. Each contained a white powder with characteristics similar to cocaine, with a total approximate gross weight of 2.4 tons.

The cargo was secured and placed at the disposal of the Federal Attorney General’s Office, in order to prepare the corresponding investigation files.

It should be noted that thus far during the current presidential administration, more than 36 tons of cocaine have been seized in maritime operations, with an approximate value of 9 billion pesos (US$150 million).
These actions are part of the maritime, aerial, and ground surveillance operations carried out by the Ministry of the Navy in the country’s territorial sea, to inhibit criminal activities in order to guarantee and maintain the rule of law in Mexican territorial waters.
