More than 400 migrants rescued in Veracruz after being abandoned

A total of 407 migrants were rescued by authorities of the National Institute of Migration after being abandoned in three tourist buses in an area located on the Minatitlán-Acayucan highway in Veracruz.

The migrants come from seven different nationalities, and 91 of them are part of family units, while 52 minors traveled without adult companionship, revealed the agency.

"The personnel of the National Institute of Migration who participated in the humanitarian rescue assisted a pregnant woman from Honduras, along with her underage daughter, a man, and another person of Ecuadorian nationality who were transferred to the General Hospital of Cosoleacaque.

"The individuals identified come from seven countries in the Caribbean, Central and South America; 91 traveled in family units, 30 women, 15 men, and 46 minors under 18 years of age, and 52 girls, boys, and adolescents were found without the company of an adult," the INM revealed.

Detainees transferred to Acayucan immigration station

After offering them water and food and checking their health status, the 407 individuals were transferred to a DIF shelter and the Acayucan immigration station to continue their legal procedures.

"Of the 264 adults traveling alone, 12 are from Cuba; 4, from the Dominican Republic; 27, from Ecuador; 187, from Guatemala; 7, from Honduras; 21, from El Salvador, and 6, from Nicaragua. This group was transferred to the Acayucan immigration station.

"Meanwhile, family units, as well as unaccompanied minors under 18 years of age, were transferred to the shelter of the Municipal System for Integral Family Development 'Grow, Trust, and Hope'," the agency reported.
