During her first press briefing titled “La Mañanera del Pueblo” (The People’s Morning Conference), the country’s first female president referred to the migrant community as “our heroes and heroines who left our country seeking a future they could not find in Mexico.”

“First, our love, recognition, and full support to all Mexicans living abroad, particularly in the United States.” CSP.

Sheinbaum Pardo said that her gratitude is not only for the support they provide to their families and to Mexico through remittances, but also because they always remain close to Mexico. She assured that the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE), Juan Ramón de la Fuente, would make it a priority to focus on Mexicans living abroad.

“I asked Dr. Juan Ramón de la Fuente… that his priority be the migrants. He will personally develop a program for all consulates, and he will personally oversee not only the treatment our brothers and sisters receive there, but also all the procedures they typically carry out,” she assured.

The head of the federal executive explained that many of the processes handled by the consular network are related to the Civil Registry, which falls under the responsibility of the states. “It is not a federal but a state and Mexico City jurisdiction,” she emphasized.

In that regard, she said their goal is to solve the issue of establishing a relationship with all the states of the Republic and their civil registries so that those and other services provided at consulates, such as assistance, legal support, and other requirements, are addressed efficiently.

“Juan Ramón has that mandate…I mentioned it to him on the first day I invited him to be Secretary of Foreign Affairs,” concluded the President.

In her government plan, within the 100 Steps for the Promised Transformation, Claudia Sheinbaum committed to “an unwavering commitment by the Mexican state to protect and defend the rights of our compatriots, seeking not only to recognize but to expand the rights and opportunities they currently have, ensuring their protection and promoting their prosperity.”

Sheinbaum Pardo promised a Mexico that would support and seek the prosperity of compatriots living abroad, more than 37 million of whom reside in the United States alone.
