From Colosio in Mexico to Trump in USA

The United States presidential candidate, Donald Trump, was the victim of an assassination attempt on the afternoon of Saturday, July 13. The attacker aimed at Trump's head; however, the shot hit the Republican's right ear during his campaign in Butler, Pennsylvania.

The Republican former president, who is seeking reelection, was seen with blood on his face and part of his mouth, suggesting that the impact hit his right ear.

This event was shocking; however, in modern history, he has not been the only candidate for a presidential position to be attacked. Here we share who have been attacked.

Luis Donaldo Colosio

On March 23, 1994, Luis Donaldo Colosio was murdered in Lomas Taurinas, Tijuana, Baja California. He was the candidate of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) for the presidency of Mexico at that time. According to reports, he was attacked during a campaign rally and died shortly after due to gunshot wounds.

As a result of the events, Mario Aburto Martínez was arrested at the crime scene and later convicted of the murder. However, there have been numerous theories and controversies surrounding the case, including speculations about possible conspiracies and other individuals involved.

The Kennedy brothers

The assassinations of brothers John F. Kennedy and Robert F. Kennedy were significant events in the history of the United States. John was the president of this country and was assassinated while traveling in a convertible car during a parade by a sniper from a nearby building on November 22, 1963, in Dallas, Texas.

Robert F. Kennedy, senator and former United States Attorney General, was assassinated at the Ambassador Hotel after winning the California Democratic presidential primary. He was shot several times on June 5, 1968, in Los Angeles, California.

Ronald Reagan

The assassination attempt on Ronald Reagan occurred on March 30, 1981, when Reagan was president of the United States, outside the Washington Hilton Hotel in Washington, D.C.

John Hinckley Jr. was found guilty of the attack. He was obsessed with actress Jodie Foster and sought to impress her. Hinckley fired six shots with a .22 caliber revolver. One of the bullets ricocheted off the presidential limousine and hit Reagan in the chest.

Abraham Lincoln

Abraham Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth, an actor and Confederate sympathizer, during a performance of the play "Our American Cousin." Lincoln was sitting in the presidential box with his wife, Mary Todd Lincoln, and their guests, Henry Rathbone and Clara Harris.

Reports indicate that Booth shot Lincoln in the back of the head with a .44 caliber Derringer pistol. After shooting, Booth jumped onto the stage and escaped the theater on horseback. According to the official story, the assassin was a staunch supporter of the Confederacy and opponent of the abolition of slavery, and he planned the assassination as part of a broader plot to revive the Confederate cause.

Theodore Roosevelt

Theodore Roosevelt, the 26th president of the United States, was the target of an assassination attempt on October 14, 1912; however, he survived the attack. Records indicate that he was campaigning as the Progressive Party (Bull Moose Party) candidate for a third term.

He was shot by John Schrank, a mentally ill New York saloonkeeper. Schrank shot Roosevelt with a .38 caliber Colt revolver as the former president was about to give a speech at the Milwaukee Auditorium.

Andrew Jackson

Records indicate that President Andrew Jackson was leaving a funeral at the Capitol when Richard Lawrence, an unemployed painter with mental problems, attempted to assassinate him. Lawrence approached Jackson and fired a percussion cap pistol at point-blank range.

The events occurred on January 30, 1835, in Washington, D.C. However, Lawrence's pistol misfired, and although he attempted to attack with a second pistol, it also misfired. It was later discovered that the humid weather conditions likely caused both pistols to fail.
